ABOUT
BIG QUESTIONS FROM SMALL MINDS is a weekly podcast that asks neuroscientists, rocket scientists and other experts questions that seem too massive, complicated or even stupid. Then breaks down the answers so anyone can understand (even ningbats like Tom and Phil).
Obviously, the show’s best questions come from kids.
Tom Norton and Phil Wolf are two dorky dads whose goal is to make STEM super engaging for kids. But also loads of laughs. They want science to be hilarious and accessible to all kids.
The podcast began when Tom interviewed a professor from Sydney University about astrophysics for his sci-fi novel.
Beforehand, Tom asked his wonderful little kids if they had any questions about the universe, or black holes, or anything… Their questions outshone Tom’s by ten thousand red dwarfs. The professor, being the perfect gentleman, answered their questions (over a glass of wine) in an easy and understandable way. Tom’s kids loved it. And the idea for the podcast was born.
*TOM NORTON IS A SILLY MAN.*
He lives in a tiny house with his beautiful family and a little cat. Their cat is super intelligent and experiments daily on Tom.
When Tom isn’t wondering about the big questions, he’s writing crazy stories. For a job, he’s also a TV editor. But by night, he’s performed stand-up, worked as a journalist and made short films - some were nominated for awards, but sadly no wins. Don’t worry, Tom’s so silly he keeps trying.
Check out funny Tom’s sci-fi novel - PINK EYE.
Reviews…
“PINK EYE IS A FUN AND EXCITING SCI-FI WITH ELEMENTS OF AN INTERGALACTIC TRUMAN SHOW AND READS LIKE A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE.”
— ARTS ALIVE, Australian National Radio
“BRILLIANT…” “FUNNY…” “AN ABSOLUTE HOOT…”
— GOODREADS
PHIL WOLF IS ODD.
He’s extremely easygoing yet loves complaining.
In the past, he worked every boring job under the sun and hated them. So … he fled to the Australian film industry where he spent a decade hanging with famous folk. But Phil is only human and no one can tolerate those complaining divas (and no one’s better at complaining than him).
Now, Phil lives in Sydney with his lovely wife and their itty-bitty baby. He works as a TV editor (a job that’s like living in a dark cupboard), talks to no one and complains only to himself. He cuts international shows like MasterChef & Survivor.
Phil’s never won an award, but his comedic web series came close, “Dave Plus One.”
